How to Put a QR Code on a Business Card: Size, Print and Styling Tips
A business-card QR should be easy to notice, quick to scan and clear about what it opens. Good print preparation matters more than decorative complexity.
Choose what it should open
A vCard can embed contact details, while a URL QR can open a portfolio or digital business card. Use dynamic when the destination may change, and label the action clearly.
Size and placement
Start around 20 mm
Roughly 20 × 20 mm is a practical starting point; dense content or difficult finishes may need more room.
Protect the quiet zone
Keep clear space around all four edges.
Stay inside the safe area
Avoid trim edges, folds and rounded corner cuts.
Design for close-range scanning
Leave enough size for older cameras and low light.
Color, logo and format
Use a dark foreground on a light background. A small center logo can work, but test the proof. Prefer SVG in layout software because it stays crisp at print resolution.
Proof before production
Print at final size
Screens cannot reproduce ink spread, lamination or glare.
Test several phones
Use iOS and Android in realistic lighting.
Test the finished stock
Texture, foil and gloss can affect scanning.
Verify every detail
Confirm names, country codes and URLs before approval.
